Short answer

The fake Tourbograph 510.105 is a replica listed under a seller SKU. The watch it copies is the A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual Pour le Mérite. Lange catalogues that model as reference 706.050, a honey gold piece of 50 units shown in 2017. The number 510.105 does not appear in Lange's published references for the Tourbograph line. Replica sellers assign such numbers to track inventory, factory batch and case finish. Two listings with the same 510.105 number can hold different movements.

What the original watch is

Lange built the Tourbograph Perpetual Pour le Mérite around calibre L133.1. The movement carries a one-minute tourbillon, a split-seconds chronograph with a 30-minute counter, a perpetual calendar with moon phase, and a fusée-and-chain constant force drive. The case measures 43 mm across. Lange made 50 examples in honey gold. Prices for the original Tourbograph Pour le Mérite at auction have reached six figures.

Replica build

Replicas sold as 510.105 use a 42 mm or 43 mm steel case with gold plating or PVD coating. Crystal is sapphire on better examples, mineral glass on cheaper ones. The dial copies the Lange layout: two subdials at 4 and 8 o'clock, a moon phase at 12, and a power reserve arc.

The movement inside is a Chinese hand-wound calibre, often a flying tourbillon design at 21,600 vph. It runs. It does not carry a fusée and chain, and no replica chain drive shows up in movement photos we reviewed. Perpetual calendar functions on the copy are often a simple calendar: month and date change, leap year correction does not.

Price bands

  • $150 to $300: mineral glass, printed dial, low-grade tourbillon.
  • $300 to $500: sapphire crystal, decorated plates, better finishing.
  • $500 to $800: engraved caseback, closer dial layout, gold plating at 5 microns or more.

Boxes, papers and certificates shipped with these watches are copies. A Lange certificate carries a matching serial, and Lange does not service or authenticate replicas. Sellers use the term super clone for the top tier of these copies; the term is marketing, not a grading standard.

Checks before you buy

  1. Ask for a video of the tourbillon cage running. A still photo proves nothing.
  2. Ask for the weight in grams. A gold Lange Tourbograph weighs far more than a steel replica.
  3. Ask for a caseback photo with the movement number. Compare the engraving depth to Lange press photos.
  4. Ask which functions work. Test the chronograph and the date change on arrival.
