The short answer
"Replica Top Gun chrono" is the seller term for copies of the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Top Gun. IWC started the Top Gun line in 2007 and named it after the US Navy Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Fallon, known as TOPGUN. The genuine chronograph has a 44.5 mm ceramic case, a titanium case back, and IWC caliber 69380. Replicas are built in China and sold from about $80 to $800. No replica uses IWC's movement, its ceramic, or its service network.

The TOP GUN name is a Paramount Pictures mark used by IWC under license. That license is one reason the genuine line sits well above a standard IWC Pilot's Chronograph on price.
What the copies use
Most replicas run an Asian 7750 derivative. That is a cam actuated chronograph. IWC caliber 69380 is a column wheel design. The difference shows in the pushers. A cam chronograph needs more force to start and has a lag on reset.
Case material is the largest gap. Genuine Top Gun cases are solid ceramic. Entry and mid tier replicas use stainless steel with a black PVD or DLC coating. A coating scratches through to bright steel. Ceramic does not scratch through, because the color runs through the material. Ceramic also holds less heat, so a coated steel case feels colder at first touch in a cool room.
Case backs on replicas are stamped steel. Genuine case backs are titanium. Case thickness on lower tiers runs 1 mm to 2 mm over spec.
Tiers sellers describe
- Entry, $80 to $200: mineral glass, plated case, quartz or low grade 7750 copy, dial fonts that do not match.
- Mid, $250 to $450: sapphire, coated steel case, Asian 7750, dial layout close to the original.
- Super clone, $500 to $800: sapphire, better case finishing, engraved case back. Still steel. Still not caliber 69380.
The super clone label is a marketing term. Replica makers publish no movement serial data, no parts support, and no service path.
Legal position in the United States
Counterfeit watches are illegal goods. 18 U.S.C. section 2320 covers trafficking in counterfeit goods, and penalties scale with the retail value of the genuine item. US Customs and Border Protection can seize and destroy counterfeit imports. Civil claims under the Lanham Act are separate from criminal charges. A replica has no warranty, no parts supply, and resale value near zero.
