Short answer
A replica IW323766 copies an IWC Ingenieur Automatic. Prices run from about $70 for a quartz copy to $600 for a high-tier automatic. No copy uses an IWC movement. IWC does not sell parts to copy makers. Every movement inside a replica comes from a third-party factory in China, Japan, or Switzerland.
What the reference is
IWC writes references as IW plus six digits. The 3237 block sits in the Ingenieur family. The Ingenieur line started in 1955. The 1976 design by Gerald Genta set the shape buyers look for today: steel case, flat bezel with five recesses, integrated bracelet.
IWC does not publish a spec sheet for every past reference. Forum posts list different case sizes for the 3237 block. Take the numbers from the seller photos, not from a listing title.
Movements you will find
Four movements cover most of the market.
- Chinese copy of the ETA 2824-2. 28,800 vph. 38 to 40 hour power reserve. Common in the $250 to $450 tier.
- Seiko NH35. 21,600 vph. 41 hour reserve. Common in the $150 to $250 tier.
- Miyota 9015. 28,800 vph. 42 hour reserve. Thinner than the 2824 copy.
- Quartz. No sweep. Found under $150.
Watch the seconds hand on video. A 21,600 vph movement beats six times per second. A 28,800 vph movement beats eight times per second. That is a small gap on a phone clip, so ask for a slow motion clip.
Case and bracelet
Steel copies use 316L in most cases. A 40 mm integrated bracelet watch in steel weighs 140 g to 160 g. A copy under 120 g has thin case walls or a hollow bracelet. Titanium versions exist but are rare.
Check three points:
- End link fit. Run a fingernail along the seam between the first link and the case. A step you can feel shows up in photos.
- Bracelet links. Solid links taper and hold shape. Folded links rattle and pinch hair.
- Crown threads. Turn the crown in and out ten times. Gritty threads strip in under a year.
Dial and glass
Applied indices sit at the same height as the original on good copies. Printed text is the weak point. Compare the weight of the IWC letters and the gaps between words. Photos at 3x zoom show the difference. Check date wheel alignment at the 3 o'clock window.
Sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides adds about $15 at the factory level. Ask for it by name. Mineral glass scratches in months.
Price tiers
- $70 to $150: quartz, mineral glass, folded links.
- $150 to $300: NH35 or Miyota, sapphire, solid links.
- $300 to $600: 2824 clone, AR sapphire, closer case profile, better dial print.
- $700 and up: builds with a genuine dial or hands. A used IWC dial sells for $300 to $800 on the secondhand market.
Water resistance
Factories test nothing. A 10 ATM claim on a replica repeats the rating of the original. It is not a test result. Do not swim in a replica. A local watchmaker can pressure test a case for $20 to $40 and swap gaskets.
Open questions
IWC does not confirm which dial colors and case metals shipped under IW323766. Sources disagree on case size for the 3237 block. Treat any single spec sheet as a claim, not a fact. Measure the watch you are sent.
