Flaws to check before you buy

Case and size

Originals measure 34 mm across with 19 mm lugs. Budget replicas come in at 36 mm or use 20 mm lugs, so bracelets from other models fit. Original case backs are plain and polished. Engraved case backs point to a replica.

Dial and hands

The coronet at 12 has five points on an oval base. Replica coronets have flat or rounded points. Tritium dials from 1989 to about 1998 have lume that turned cream or brown. Later dials use Super-LumiNova. Bright white lume on a 1990s reference does not match.

Movement

Caliber 3000 runs at 28,800 vph, or 4 Hz. A 21,600 vph movement shows a slower seconds sweep. Asian 3130 clones match the beat rate, but rotor engraving and the balance bridge differ from the original. No replica movement matches the finishing of a Caliber 3000.

Bracelet and clasp

Oyster ref 78350 uses 19 mm end links and a folding clasp with a code stamp. Replica stamps repeat the same two or three codes on every watch. Check the fit at the lugs and the coronet on the clasp.
