Short answer

The Rolex Submariner 14060 is a no-date dive watch. Rolex built it from 1990 to 2011. Fakes of this reference are common. Three checks settle most cases: the dial has no date window, the case measures 40 mm, and the movement is a Rolex caliber 3000 or 3130.

Genuine 14060 specs

Reference 14060 arrived in 1990 as the replacement for the 5513. Rolex used caliber 3000 in the first run. In 2001 the reference became the 14060M with caliber 3130. Both movements run at 28,800 vph with 27 jewels and about 42 hours of power reserve. Caliber 3130 is COSC certified. Rolex added "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" to the dial in 2007. Earlier 14060M dials carry two lines above center.

Case size is 40 mm. Lug width is 20 mm. Water resistance is 300 m. Dial text reads "ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL" and "SUBMARINER" above center, with "660ft = 200m" at the bottom. Crystal is sapphire. There is no date and no cyclops. The bezel insert is aluminum with a black finish. The bracelet is an Oyster 93150 with 501B end links.

Fake 14060 checks

  1. Date window. A real 14060 has none. Any aperture at 3 o'clock is wrong.
  2. Cyclops. A magnifier over the crystal means the case is not a 14060.
  3. Dial text. Replica dials stretch or crowd the letters. Check the space between "SUBMARINER" and the depth rating.
  4. Movement. Ask for a photo through the caseback. Caliber 3000 and 3130 have 27 jewels and a free-sprung balance. A 21,600 vph movement is a tell. Count the second hand steps: 8 per second at 28,800 vph, 6 per second at 21,600 vph.
  5. Case. Drilled lugs appear on early 14060 cases. Later 14060M cases use solid lugs. Engravings between the lugs show "14060" or "14060M" at 12 o'clock and the serial at 6 o'clock.
  6. Bracelet. The 93150 has hollow center links. Most replicas ship with solid-link bracelets that do not match the reference.
  7. Case back. Plain steel. No engraving. No display back.

Movements inside replicas

Replica 14060 watches use Asian clones of the ETA 2824 or 2836, or a decorated 2813. Some factories now sell a clone of the Rolex 3130, sold as VR3130 or SH3130. That clone keeps the 28,800 vph beat rate. Decorated 2813 movements beat at 21,600 vph.

Prices

Genuine 14060 and 14060M watches list between $7,500 and $12,000 on the secondary market. Full sets with box and papers sit at the top of that range. Replica versions sell between $300 and $800.

Request movement photos, a caseback-off shot, and a timing-machine printout. Ask for a serial number and compare it with the reference. Rolex does not publish serial ranges, so third-party lists are the only reference. Send any serious candidate to an independent watchmaker.
