Sellers name Clean Factory, VSF, ARF, and GMF as top builders. These shops cut a steel case to 40 mm and fit a ceramic insert with a blue and black split. Many use the VR3186 or SH3186, a clone of the Rolex 3186. The clone has a correct hand stack. The hour hand jumps in one-hour steps and the GMT hand sits under the minute hand. Older copies use an incorrect hand stack. On those, the GMT hand moves with the hour hand.
Where Copies Differ
The bezel color break is the first tell. On a real Cerachrom insert the blue-to-black line sits at 6 and 18 and stays narrow. Replica inserts often show a wide or rough transition. The blue can read purple or gray under some light.
Other points to check: rehaut engraving depth, date font, Cyclops alignment, SEL fit at the lugs, crown guard shape, and bracelet weight. Steel grade differs too. Rolex uses 904L. Most replicas use 316L.
